Expert legal support to close deals, no matter how complex
Artificer is a firm of multidisciplinary professionals, operating in the divide between technology and the law. We’re enthusiastic about the challenge of weaving legal complexities with technological ones to achieve real world results. Here are just some of the ways we’re different than our competitors and can help your sales executives close deals faster.
More than just experienced lawyers
Our technology lawyers have worked on multi-million dollar technology procurement and sales contracts throughout Australia. It’s not enough to be experienced however, we equip our lawyers with the best in technological collaboration tools so they can maintain total focus on addressing your concerns and building relationships.
We are totally invested in building your sales teams into high-performing, legally compliant teams. That means listening more than talking, and shaping our advice to enable your goals and objectives, not throwing up roadblocks to them. Read on to get more information about our experience with RFx processes, the key areas of law involved and our approach to government procurement contracts.
RFx Ready
We’ve reviewed countless Requests for Proposals/Quotes/Information/Pricing in private and government procurement contexts. We know what goes into a successful RFx response, and we know that a lawyer that isn’t focused on winning the business can completely bog down the process. Typically this occurs by taking a position that is too conservative, or misjudging when the appropriate time is to object to problematic contractual language.
We can help you build a library of positions on the various issues that normally arise during an RFx, or if it is a once-off deal, we can adopt standard industry positions that we have developed over our experience working on other RFx processes. Armed with these positions we can be focused on working with your sales team to form prudent judgment on when we should put our positions forward. Sometimes this is in the initial response, or sometimes it’s during a negotiation process.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to our legal assistance on RFx exercises. We’ve progressed many proposals to a successful outcome we would be pleased to share our experience with your team wherever needed.
IP, Privacy and Contract Specialists
Lawyers at Artificer have deep experience in the areas most likely to impact contract negotiations for RFx activities. Intellectual Property (particularly software copyrights and licensing) and privacy compliance (for both Commonwealth and State privacy laws) to name just two.
Armed with this knowledge our lawyers will apply commercially sensible positions and advise your team on the conventional positions taken in RFx processes. Without experience, it’s difficult to tell which IP or privacy clauses present real risks, and which are included as an abundance of caution. Knowing the difference is how our lawyers are able to guide you to presenting commercially attractive proposal without taking reckless risks.
Government Procurement? No Problem.
We’ve worked on most government contracting frameworks in Australia. Whether it be Commonwealth Digital Sourcing Contract Templates (formerly SourceIT), Digital Transformation Agency Panel Agreements, State Government procurement frameworks (such as Core& for NSW, formerly ProcureIT, QITC for Queensland etc.) or new and emerging templates; we’ve likely done it before.
We know from experience the key to working with these contract frameworks is to develop the deepest understanding of your product or service. Then, combining that understanding with the knowledge of the way the government contracts work, looking for practical changes to the product or service alongside contractual amendments.
This is often the key to a successful sale, and recognises that sometimes government really is asking for you to make products or services that have special features just for them, even if it’s not clear from their initial approach to market.
Regular deal support
If your sales team has recurring requirements to get legal advice on sales agreements, customer markup/redlines or RFx responses, we can help you save thousands.

Using our digital platform, we can provide a direct interface to your sales team for assistance with legal aspects of any deal or for customer contract amendments.
Integrate efficient legals into your sales workflow
Traditional law firms slow down sales so much that sales executives would rather get advice on their contract amendments from ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Grok. What if they could get real legal advice from experienced and human lawyers in time-frames that are almost as fast as large language models? That’s the promise of integrating a direct help-desk solution like Artificer OnDemand into your sales workflow.
How does it work?
Select from one of our standard subscription options or contact us for a tailored plan. Provided you are a new customer, each subscription includes an onboarding scope of work which is designed to ensure we are familiar with your organisations before offering direct support to your team.
Support is provided via our digital help desk at ondemand.artificer.legal, you can log a ticket or email your request. For matters requiring a discussion, the help desk software will be used to establish a suitable time to discuss the matter further. For matters which can be answered in correspondence, the correspondence will be through the help desk.
What is included?
The service covers most legal matters your sales executives will need to win deals. This includes things like:
- Reviewing, advising on and drafting contracts like Software Subscription Agreements, Services Statements of Works, Master Services Agreements, Channel Partner Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements and others.
- Advice on internal employment matters like awards, drafting of employment agreements, bonus structures, employee share option plans and similar incentive schemes.
- Advice on privacy matters, data governance and an initial triage and eligible data breach assessment of a cyber incident (note a the full recommended scope of work to respond to a cyber incident is excluded from the normal scope).
- Anything else not specifically excluded under your plan and the general terms of service.
What is excluded?
In essence, OnDemand excludes anything that wouldn’t ordinarily be required to win deals such as taxation and accounting advice, registration of IP, and other areas of law like criminal or family law. You can view the full list of exclusions in the OnDemand Subscription Agreement.
Additionally, the service is always provided subject to the limitations of the selected package. For most standard packages you receive a pre-defined number of hours on a regular basis to put towards any services, so services will be limited to those hours, and services where we cannot perform the full estimated scope of works without exhausting the hours will not go ahead unless approval is obtained to increase the hours or have them separately billed.
How quickly can you get started?
We can start straight away. Take a quick look at our pricing options and select a plan. If you have any questions, you can contact us for a discussion about your options and how we might be able to assist.
OnDemand FAQs
We’ve collected some common questions here about Artificer OnDemand. Please feel free to write to us below using the form if we’ve missed an important question you have.
There are some great legal AI products out there designed to help with contract amendments or answer questions about legal compliance. However, there’s a reason these tools are largely targeted at legal practitioners and not following a direct to end-client model. Principally, AI models can’t ‘think’ outside the box they’re trained in, they can’t critically ‘think’ and they can’t take initiative.
When our practitioners are drafting your contract amendments, answering legal questions or considering your compliance challenges, they’re trying to stand in your shoes and make your life easier. It’s hard for an AI model to compete with that because it’s fundamentally about relating to experiences in the real world of business.
We’ve thought about integrating AI capability into OnDemand, however we think the value of the product would be diminished if we did. That doesn’t mean our practitioners will be slowly doing things manually behind the scenes; we use the latest AI tooling to help us get your work done faster. But we won’t be letting AI dictate the end product.
Well we are intentionally selling hours at a blended and discounted rate in exchange for a minimum usage commitment over a subscription term, so that’s better value if you’re in an organisation that uses legal services regularly.
More broadly though, we think its much better to embed a digital presence into your team this way rather than formally engage a lawyer only when it seems like one is needed. We work much more closely with our regular clients than we do with clients for once-off engagements; the goal being to make sure as advisors we’re positioned to proactively save you from creating a silent back-log of issues that might require attention or cause a serious management headache.
This format allows us to come in at a ground level and understand what your front-line personnel need help with most often. Spend control is built into the process and you can get an update on the progress of ‘Allocated Hours’ eroded at any time on our online portal.
We can start straight away. Take a quick look at our pricing options and select a plan. If you have any questions, you can contact us for a discussion about your options and how we might be able to assist.
You decide what happens from the two possible choices: (1) we continue working on your ticket/issue at our standard rates and invoice you at the end of the month for the additional time we spend; or (2) we notify you before starting work on your a requested ticket/issue that it’s likely to exceed your remaining Allocated Hours, and confirm what should remain in-scope or to what extent to proceed with our assistance.
There is of course no guarantee that you will have the work required to exactly use all the Allocated Hours, but that’s part of the reason why we’ve built in the substantial discount on our usual rates.
It is currently billed monthly in arrears, we require a direct debit facility for the regular subscription payment, and then any extra services over and above the Allocated Hours that you use we will bill normally with 30 day terms.
It’s possible but we’ve built in mechanisms to help mitigate waste.
Because there’s no guarantee that you will have the work required to exactly use all the Allocated Hours, you may not have work to use them on in any given month. That’s part of the reason why we’ve built in the substantial discount to the blended rate for each Allocated Hour.
Additionally, we’ve built in a reallocation/roll-over mechanism for months where you have very low usage, allowing you to roll-over unused Allocated Hours up to two times in row. This is intended to allow you to adapt the service to the usual ebbs and flows in your requirements for legal services.
If you look at them closely, we’re not actually excluding many types of legal services that commercial organisations will need.
We’ve done our homework on competing offers, and one of the things we observed was that discretionary exclusions were quite a common term. In other words, even though you’re paying a monthly fee, the provider of the services has a broad licence to say that you have to pay extra to get help with your specific problem.
We wanted to take a different approach where you could have more peace of mind upfront that legal problems you had would be covered in the cost. So even though the exclusions list may seem long, most of the exclusions are not related to areas of legal practice. Based on our analysis, OnDemand customers can use the service for more legal work than competing products. If you can find a competing subscription that doesn’t exclude something that OnDemand does, let us know and we might find a way to make it an inclusion for you.
If the pricing seems expensive, it might be because you’re fortunate enough not to require the regular intervention of legal counsel in the running of your business. If you only need once-off or infrequent assistance, OnDemand might be too much for your enterprise. In that case, we’d be happy to assist you with a great value quote for once-off assistance. If you’re running an intensive project, we can also assign a lawyer to assist you full-time for the duration of the project.
OnDemand is more focused on helping organisations that know they have a regular spend, and want to save money overall by averaging out that spend across the period of one or more years. In this case, OnDemand is typically much cheaper than the equivalent level of assistance from traditional firms, and more valuable than the assistance from ‘NewLaw’ style subscription arrangements because of its broader level of inclusions.
Yes the advertised prices on this page are inclusive of GST. For any additional services that you purchase, the Subscription Agreement will provide hourly rates that are GST exclusive, and will be labelled as such.
We provide them upon enquiry on a Commercial in Confidence basis. if you make an enquiry and give us a basic overview of your business we will happily provide you with a draft/proposal Subscription Agreement which will include our standard rates.
